With the end of 2018 comes a brand-new year of potential; a whole year to accomplish new things and create new experiences. Everyone has new year’s resolutions. For some it’s to make more money, for others it’s to travel more, and some even focus on personal development. But what about your health? This 2019 can be a great year to focus on improving your health. Some of us think we’ll be young forever and often neglect our health. If you want to improve your health this year, we have 10 awesome new year’s resolutions to have a happy and healthy 2019.

A Good Year Starts with More Sleep

As far as health goes, sleep is a vital part of maintaining it and often is overlooked. According to the Center for Disease Control, 1 in 3 adults don’t get enough sleep. Lack of sleep can be very common however, it can have a negative impact on your wellbeing. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society recommends getting at least 7 hours of quality sleep each night.

Sleeping less than 7 hours can increase the risk of obesity, hypertension, heart disease, and mood disorders. In order to get a good night’s sleep, try turning off any electronic devices an hour before going to bed, going to sleep and waking up at the same time every day, and sleeping in a cooler temperature can make a big difference.

In 2019 Join a Gym

This is the most cliché choice but clichés are true for a reason. Joining a gym is one of the best ways to improve your health. It is recommended that you work out at least 3-4 times a week, for at least 45 minutes. This is the minimum for keeping your body healthy. We need exercise to improve circulation, keep our hearts healthy, and allow our brains to function. Living a sedentary lifestyle can cause a host of health risks similar to not getting enough sleep. Our bodies are designed for movement and for building strength. We need to get moving to get healthy. And if you want to get even better results, you can add vitamin IV therapy to your workouts.

Watch What You Eat

This is an another obvious one but for many people it’s a challenge. In the U.S., 2 out of 3 adults are considered overweight or obese. It is a large enough statistic that it is considered an obesity epidemic in America. That doesn’t mean that everyone has to try and look like a stick figure model, after all we all have different figures and body types. What it does mean is that we need to be more careful with what we are eating and how much of it.

It can be helpful to monitor how many calories you eat each day and how much you are burning off, this can help you maintain your weight. Also use some common sense when it comes to food. Alcohol, red meats, sugar, salt, and fried foods should be eaten once in a while, not every week. Try to eat a salad each day, make sure you eat some healthy fruits, try some lean proteins like fish or chicken, and drink plenty of water. This should help you have a healthier diet.

Get Plenty of Nutrients

Often, we eat foods that don’t contain enough essential vitamins and minerals. If you watch what you eat this year, that should change somewhat but when you eat foods with nutrients, your body breaks down a lot of those nutrients before they even get absorbed into your system. Nutrient IV Therapy can provide your body with what it needs right away. If you've never tried Nutrient IV Therapy, IV Nutrition Therapy, or IV Vitamin Therapy, or any of the other names this process is known by, it can be a great way to get healthy. It's basically a safe way to get vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and proteins directly into your body to give you the full effect of those nutrients. Liquivida Lounge can help you get healthy with some healthy IV drips.

In 2019, Practice Self Care

This is the one part of our health that is the most overlooked. Usually, we try to focus on a lot of the goals above. Focusing on mental and emotional health can help prevent burnout and avoid using bad habits to cope. One way to focus on self-care is journaling. Journaling your feelings can help you deal with them better.

Going to therapy is another good way to learn how to change your way of thinking and focus on more positive behaviors. Joining a support group or joining meetup groups can help you get in touch with other people and share your experiences. Whatever you choose, try focusing on self-care to improve your overall health.

Go to the Doctor

Listen, nobody likes going to the doctor and finding out they have some health problem. But think about this, when you go to the mechanic, would you rather have them tell you what the problem with your car is? Or would you rather keep driving around and hope your car doesn’t break down somewhere on the highway? You should make an appointment with your physician at least once a year. Same thing with your dentist. Going to the doctors can be expensive, but it’s less expensive than paying for treatment of something that could’ve been avoided earlier.

A Healthy New Year Resolution: Quit a Bad Habit

One way to have a healthier year would be to quit one of your bad habits. Some bad habits can be addictive. Smoking, addictive eating, and drinking are destructive habits that can damage our bodies as well. They are also unhealthy coping devices. If you are looking to get rid of a bad habit, try going to a support group like Alcoholics Anonymous or other fellowships. There are also lots of books written on these subjects to help give you some perspective on addiction. Therapy can really help as well. Whatever you choose, it takes one day at a time so try to give yourself some slack when getting better.

Drink More Water

Water gives us life but most of us don’t get enough of it. Recently, we wrote about the importance of hydration and getting a good nights sleep. Water is essential for keeping our organs functioning, especially our brains. Being dehydrated can ruin our concentration, increase brain fog, and decrease focus. Dehydration can decrease strength and stamina, it can lead to heat exhaustion, and cause kidney stones. Being properly hydrated can give you more energy and keep your brain alert. Try to avoid juices and so called “smart waters” because they usually contain sugars. Pure water is really all our body needs to stay hydrated. Try to drink an ounce of water for every pound you weigh.

Make 2019 a Social Year

In the digital age, we have plenty of friends and followers on social media, but not as much in real life. Why go out and meet people, when you can just talk to them online? The thing is having friends and a sense of community can prolong our lives. In the Okinawa Prefecture in Japan, which contains a high number of people living past 100 years old, one of the reasons listed for this is because they have a sense of community and they have people around to socialize with. We easily get frustrated with other people, but having a good amount of friends can be good for us. Loneliness can actually be as bad to our health as obesity. Meetups, local events, and sport activities can be an excellent way to meet new people, so try to meet some new people this year.

Meditation is a Good Resolution

It’s also a great way to improve your mental health. Taking three to five minutes each day to clear our minds can help lower anxiety, lower blood pressure, and lower stress. Meditation is a great way to gain perspective of our lives and learn to be grateful for what we have. Sitting down and just focusing on our breathing can really make a big difference in how we approach our day. There is so much going on in our lives and in the world these days that it can be overwhelming. That’s why it’s good to try to clear our heads of what we’re worried about. Your wellness will thank you.
